SBI Clerk exam is a national level exam conducted by the State Bank of India every year for the Clerical cadre/Junior Associate post. State Bank of India provides many opportunities for young graduates as well as experienced professionals for accelerated career growth in the banking sector. Eligibility Criteria for SBI Clerk:

Education Qualification:

Candidates should have a Graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government.

Age Limit:

Minimum Age - 20 years

Maximum Age - 28 years

Age Relaxation:

The SBI Clerk Age Relaxation for different categories are as follows:

1. SC / ST 5 years
2. OBC (Non - Creamy Layer) 3 years
3. PwD (General) 10 years
4. PwD (OBC) 13 years
5. PwD (SC /ST) 15 years
6. Persons domiciled in Jammu & Kashmir 33 Years
7. Ex-Servicemen/Disabled Ex-Servicemen The actual period of service rendered in defense services + 3 years, (8 years for Disabled Ex-servicemen belonging to SC/ST) subject to a maximum age of 50 years
8. Widows, Divorced women judicially separated from their husbands (Not remarried) GEN- 7 years

The selection procedure of SBI Clerk Recruitment Consists of 3 different stages as mentioned below:

  • Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
  • Main Examination (Objective/Written Type)

  • Each test will have separate timing as mentioned above.
  • There will be negative marks for wrong answers in the Objective tests. 1/4th of the mark assigned for the question will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • No minimum qualifying marks for the individual subjects as well as for aggregate (overall) are prescribed.
  • An adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by the Bank (approximately 10 times the numbers of vacancies. subject to availability) will be shortlisted for the Main Examination from the list of all candidates arranged in descending order of aggregate marks scored.

SBI Clerk Exam Phase-III: Test of specified opted local language:

The language test is conducted for candidates qualifying for the mains exam. Those who qualify for selection and produce 10th or 12th standard mark sheet certificate evidencing having studied the specified opted local language will not be subjected to any Language test. In the case of others (qualified for selection), specified opted local language test will be conducted after provisional selection but before joining. Candidates not found to be proficient in specified opted local language would be disqualified.

Provisional Selection (Subject to qualifying specified opted local language):

The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination (Phase-I) will not be added for the selection and only the aggregate marks obtained in Main Examination (Phase-II) will be considered for preparation of the final merit list. Provisional selection will be made on the basis of candidate’s performance in the test (main examination).

Final Selection:

I. Verification of eligibility for the post and information furnished in the online application

II. Qualifying in a test of specified opted local language, where applicable, as detailed above

Salary Structure of SBI Clerk:

The Salary of SBI Clerk is 11765-655/3-13730-815/3-16175-980/4-20095-1145/728110-2120/1-30230-1310/1-31540, which means the starting Compensation Salary for an individual is Rs11,765/-. Also, there will be a year-on-year increment of Rs 655/- along with the Basic pay. After 3 years, the basic salary of the SBI Clerk will be 13730/- after which the amount of rs 815/- will be added in his salary as an annual increment for three years. Again after three years, he will be getting basic pay of Rs 16175/-. The maximum basic salary of SBI Clerk is 31450/-

Basic Pay -Rs. 11,765/- Rs.11,765/-   (Rs 655/-)

Salary after 1st Increment- Rs. 13730/-

Salary after 2nd Increment-Rs. 16175/-

Salary after 3rd Increment- Rs. 20095/-

Dearness Allowance This component of the SBI Clerk Salary is revised 4 times a year. It is based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The DA elevates when the inflation is high and vice versa.
House Accommodation The HRA is totally dependent on the city of SBI Clerk’s posting. In Metro cities, the HRA is high. In rural areas, the HRA is less.

Once a junior associate joins the bank, he has to appear in JAIIB and CAIIB examinations so that he can eligible for the Trainee Officer examination after three years of service. Trainee Officer is the equivalent cadre of the probationary officer recruited by the bank. After that, the bank offers time-bound promotions every three years in the fast track route and any sincere candidate can reach up to the highest level during his career in the bank.
