Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering

GATE is a national level exam conducted by IISc (Indian Institute of Science), and seven India Institute of Technologies at Roorkee, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Chennai(Madras), and Mumbai on behalf of National Coordination Board-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. GATE score enables students to gain admission to various prestigious Post Graduate education programs (e.g. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Master of Architecture, Doctor of Philosophy) in Indian higher education institutes ( Indian Institutes of Technology(IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and other institutes/universities across India), with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies.  The main aim of the GATE exam is to test students' knowledge and understanding of their under Graduate level subjects in Engineering and Science. Organizing Institute for GATE 2021 is the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. GATE 2021 examination will be conducted over six days and twelve sessions on Friday 5th, Saturday 6th, Sunday 7th, Friday 12th, Saturday 13th, and Sunday 14th of February 2021.

Eligibility Criteria for GATE 2021:

Nationality: Candidates should be of Indian nationality. However, candidates from Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore, and United Arab Emirates (UAE) will also be eligible to apply.

Age limit: There is NO age limit to appear for the GATE 2021 examination.

Minimum percentage: There is no minimum pass percentage in the qualifying degree while applying for GATE 2021.

  • IIT Bombay has also intro diced two new subjects – Environmental Science and Engineering (ES) and Humanities and Social Science (XS). The total number of subjects in GATE 2021 has increased to 27.

GATE scorecard validity:  The GATE-2021 scorecard will remain valid for THREE years from the date of the announcement of results.

Negative Marking:

  • 1-mark MCQ questions - 1/3 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer.
  • 2-mark (MCQ) questions - 2/3 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer.
  • There is no negative marking for numerical answer type questions.
  • Numerical Answer/Fill in the blank Questions of 1 or 2 marks each in all papers and sections. For numerical answer questions, choices will not be given. Candidates have to enter the answer (which will be a real number, signed or unsigned, e.g. 25.06, -25.06, 25, -25, etc.) using a virtual keypad. An appropriate range will be considered while evaluating the numerical answer type questions so that the candidate is not penalized due to the usual round-off errors. Design of Questions

  • Printout of GATE 2021 admits card.
  • Original and valid ID proof: Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Aadhaar-UID, College ID, employee ID, or driving license.

  • Self-attested copy of GATE scorecard (2019 or 2020 or 2021)
  • Photo ID proof as per government of India norms
  • Original birth certificate issued by the competent authority
  • Class X (high school) board certificate as the date of birth proof
  • Class XII original mark sheet
  • Original grade or mark sheets of the qualifying examination for all semesters
  • If degree is completed, original degree or provisional certificate
