LIC AAO (Assistant Administrative Officer):

Life Insurance Company(LIC) is the biggest life insurance company in India. LIC AAO is an exam conducted by the Life Insurance Corporation of India. Every year LIC recruits the Assistant Administrative Officer (AAO) (AAO Generalist, AAO IT, AAO Chartered Accountant, AAO Actuarial, AAO Rajbhasha) through the LIC AAO exam.

LIC AAO (Generalists)

The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree from any recognized university.

LIC AAO (IT)

The candidate must be a graduate in engineering (Computer Science, IT or Electronics) or have completed his MCA or MSc (Computer Science) from a recognized university.

LIC AAO (Chartered Accountant)

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. He should also have passed the final exam of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and be an Associate Member of the same.

LIC AAO (Actuarial)

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university. He should also have passed Paper CT1 and CT5 plus 4 or more other papers of the exam conducted by the Institute of Actuaries of India/Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, UK.

LIC AAO (Rajbhasha)

Post Graduate Master’s Degree in Hindi/Hindi translation with English as one of the subjects at Bachelor’s Degree level 

or

Post Graduate Master’s Degree in English with Hindi as one of the subjects at Bachelor’s degree level

or

Post Graduate Master’s Degree in Sanskrit with English and Hindi as subjects at Bachelor’s degree level.

Selection Process for LIC AAO:

The LIC AAO Recruitment process involves three stages. These are as under:

  1. 1st Stage: LIC AAO Preliminary Exam
  2. 2nd Stage: LIC AAO Main Exam,
  3. 3rd Stage: Personal Interview

LIC AAO Exam Pattern For Prelims:

  • The three sections are separately timed, which means candidates will be able to attempt a particular section only during the allotted time and need to finish the section in that time period.

LIC AAO Exam Pattern for Mains:

LIC AAO Mains exam pattern is different for the different posts of AAO (Generalist/IT/Chartered Accountant/Actuarial/Rajbhasha). For all these posts, the Main exam has both objective and descriptive sections and both are conducted in the online mode.

The duration of the Objective Test is 2 hours. There will be 4 sections. The total marks will be 300.

Note:

  • The mode of question paper will be bilingual except for the English language.
  • The fifth section in the mains exam pattern - English Letter writing and Knowledge of Language, are essential only for an aspirant to qualify. Therefore the score will not be used to determine the ranking.
  • The candidates need to qualify in each section to get shortlisted for the Interview and to get their Descriptive test evaluated.

Mains Exam Descriptive Test (for Generalist, IT, CA, Actuarial, and Rajbhasha):

  • The descriptive test will be conducted just after the completion of the objective test. The time for the descriptive test will be 30 minutes and the total marks will be 25. There will be 2 questions in the descriptive test. The test will be in online mode.
  • The candidates need to qualify the descriptive test for all the posts, but the marks in the descriptive test will not be considered for the ranking. For the posts of Generalists, IT, CA, and Actuarial, the descriptive test will be in the English Language. For the post of AAO Rajbhasha, the descriptive test will be of Knowledge of Language. The candidates belonging to ST/SC need to score a minimum of 9 marks in the descriptive test while the candidates of other categories need to score a minimum of 10 marks in the descriptive test.
  • The descriptive test will be conducted immediately after the objective exam is over. The sections of the Main exam to are separately timed. The descriptive test, for all posts, is qualifying in nature. This means the marks secured by the candidates in the descriptive test will not be considered to compile the final merit list.
  • In this section, students have to qualify for a letter-writing and essay writing test.

Candidates will have to secure the minimum qualifying marks in each of the sections (LIC AAO sectional cutoff) as well as the overall minimum qualifying marks (LIC AAO overall cutoff) in order to appear for the next round, that is the Personal Interview round. It is also important to note that the descriptive paper will be evaluated only if the candidate clears the objective test.

LIC AAO Final Selection: Interview

Final selection will be made based on merit that is, based on the marks secured by the candidates in the Main Exam and Personal Interview. The number of candidates to be called for interview will be about three times the number of vacancies.

In the case of two or more candidates securing the same aggregate marks, the candidate with the higher educational qualification will be given preference. If the tie still persists, the candidate older in age will be given preference.

Selected candidates will first have to undergo a Pre-Recruitment Medical Examination as well as Document Verification. If they are found medically fit and their documents are found in order, they will be appointed as Assistant Administrative Officers (AAOs).

In this section, participants have to solve questions based upon business, finance, Indian economy, insurance policies & laws, etc. The syllabus will be the same as the syllabus of the qualifying course for the particular post.

LIC AAO Syllabus for Insurance & Financial Market Awareness:

There is no specific syllabus for this section. Candidates need to be aware of the latest policies, development, news, and events related to insurance and the financial market. Regular reading of newspapers and magazines, especially, the business, finance, and economy pages is a must to prepare for this section. Knowledge of the history of banking, insurance, and other financial institutes, various laws and policies related to them, etc. is also required.

LIC AAO Syllabus for Descriptive Test:

The Descriptive Test will include two questions – Letter Writing and Essay.
